Hi Maeve, Thanks for the tip about the lovely destination! And you and the mister are so right; we need to take better advantage of what’s in our own backyard…why take an expensive ferry and drive for hours, when you can get away right here? Just wanted to add, though, that although Cowichan Lake (or Lake Cowichan–so confusing! I think one is the name of the lake, the other the name of the town) is lovely and quiet in the off-season, it’s definitely packed and well-used all summer. We don’t go camping there in the summer because of the endless powerboats and cheek-to-jowl summer residents…but it’s so close, it might be worth checking out. It’s still beautiful, just BUSY!

Maeve, love the dream. A nice clean creative “industry” (need to find a new term) for the Valley. There is a nice start at the VI Technology Park in Victoria, but housing prices in Greater Victoria are still so expensive – so we could be the satellite location.

P.S. Disappointing about Nokia – congratulations to get the interview. Seven years ago, I was employing home based communicators with great success.

Ah – an airstream – jets you around the world from the comfort of your own home. Enjoy.

Thanks Patricia. I’m no longer gutted; in fact, it’s a blessing. I’m working on interesting stuff these days, all from the comfort of my Airstream!

Maeve, sorry to hear you didn’t get the job. Their loss, for sure.
As far as Cowichan goes… I think you are right on the money. And I also agree that the big ticket for this region is going to be some kind of energy innovations. We have the right consciousness and are already moving in that direction. We just need a company to back us and move it forward

You’re absolutely right; to increase the legitimacy of local gov’t, we need to increase voter turnout!!!!

A well written and very engaging article, Maeve, with very valid points about the need and the means to reach out to the younger voters and engage them in the process.
Those that don’t vote, can’t complain. And those who vote without taking the time to learn about the candidates have only themselves to blame if their randomly chosen candidates turn out to be the wrong choices.

Great job Maeve! Forgot to tell you that I did use your blog about voting in my grade 10 class! We had a great trustee all candidates meeting and then did a mock vote after with interesting results!!
